The Garmin eTrex Vista GPS combines a basemap of North and South America, with a barometric altimeter and electronic compass. The compass provides bearing information while you're standing still and the altimeter determines your precise altitude.

The Garmin eTrex Vista GPS also boasts an internal memory capacity of 24 megabytes, which allows it to accept downloaded mapping data from GARMIN's MapSource� CD-ROMs. A silver case gives this unit a high-tech look. New to the product design, GARMIN includes marine aids to navigation in addition to the basemap. The Garmin eTrex Vista GPS supports the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) differential GPS corrections through a system of ground stations and geosyncronous satellites. Without any additional equipment or fees, the Garmin eTrex Legend GPS uses WAAS to realize position accuracy of better than 9 feet, 95% of the time (typical)*.

MapSource� CDs provide high level detail of roads, recreational areas, coastlines, navaids, lakes, boat ramps, topography and more. A PC Interface cable is enclosed with each eTrex Vista to allow you to download MapSource� CD Data between your PC and eTrex Vista. MapSource� software also allows you to view color maps on a personal computer, with zoom and pan functions for easy map browsing. Users can then select individual maps in areas of interest and transfer the maps to the eTrex Vista or other compatible GPS.

Think of MapSource� as an atlas that contains many smaller maps. By choosing several of these maps, you can make a map set. This map set can then be transferred to your GARMIN GPS, which allows you to tailor the map detail for the geographic areas you wish to view. For instance, if you are planning a trip by car, your map set might only need to include those maps that are along your intended driving route. MapSource gives you the flexibility to choose the extent of the mapping coverage.

Use the trip and waypoint manager functions to create waypoints, routes, and tracks, and transfer them between your GARMIN GPS and your PC. This is excellent for planning your next outdoor adventure, business trip, vacation, or recreational outing without ever leaving your house.
