GARMIN's new StreetPilot GPS was the first in the automotive marketplace to offer a comprehensive mapping system that was both portable and affordable. The StreetPilot GPS ColorMap takes up where its sister product left off by boasting a razor-sharp, high-resolution, 16-color display for easy map reading. ColorMap works in an auto, truck, or van.

Designed primarily for the automobile, the ColorMap improves on the StreetPilot's basemap information by adding exit information for the federal interstate highway system that lists available services such as food, lodging, and service stations. It also contains a reference basemap showing Interstate, U.S., and State highways, plus rivers and lakes in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

With the optional MapSource MetroGuide U.S.A. CD-ROMs* you'll see details like the locations of restaurants, banks, gas stations, and tourist attractions, plus much more. And you'll be able to drive to any city address contained in our huge database using an electronic map that shows street-level detail. All you need to do is enter a street address or choose a point of interest (such as restaurants, hotels, gas stations, banks, and shopping areas) and the StreetPilot will display it on a map along with your current location. The ColorMap features a high-performance twelve parallel channel GPS receiver for quick satellite acquisition and reliable signal reception, whether you're under dense tree cover or surrounded by high-rise skyscrapers. Text and graphics are shown in large type for easy viewing, with a screen brightness adjustment and a night mode that alters the display colors for viewing in dim ambient conditions. The unit also comes with a free cigarette lighter adapter for those times when you don't have to rely on battery power. A free PC interface cable for downloading MapSource CD-ROM* information is also included. The Garmin StreetPilot ColorMap is portable GPS navigation for your vehicle. View you position in real time on a colorful electronic map and look up cities, exits and more. With StreetPilot ColorMap by your side, you may never have to ask directions again.

The FIND feature allows you to quickly search the ColorMap's database for a personal point of interest or city location. These points are included in the StreetPilot's basemap and don't require an additional MetroGuide cartridge in order to access them. MetroGuide* is required for "Street Addresses", "Points of Interest", and "Intersections." *Requires blank 8 MB, 16 MB or 32 MB data card and PC interface cable to download map data		The ColorMap allows you to review cities by proximity or name. In this example, the cities are listed in order of their distance from your current location.

At the heart of the ColorMap is the Map Page, which shows your current location on a background of highways, major thoroughfares, lakes, rivers, and coastlines. After selecting a destination or manually creating a route, the ColorMap points you in the right direction. As you travel, an arrow will point to an en route location or final destination, with the "distance" and "time to go" displayed below. (It will *not* compute a route between the points. It will *not* provide voice prompts).		The City Information page shows the city name at the top of the page, with a map window below showing the surrounding area. You can use the zoom keys to change the scale of the map window. If you want the ColorMap to go to the city, highlight "go to it." If you want to see the city on the Map page with the panning arrow on it, highlight "point to it."

To make the most of your StreetPilot ColorMap's find abilities and map detail, you can download maps from optional MapSource MetroGuide CD-ROMs.

MetroGuide provides extreme detail, including business and residential street names with address lookup capability, plus restaurants, hotels, banks, shopping, attractions and more. All this from purchasing a MapSource MetroGuide CD-ROM and a blank 8, 16, 32, 64 or 128 MB data card and then making a simple connection to your PC (interface included with unit).

You can even use MapSource software to manually create routes and waypoints right on your PC and download them to your StreetPilot ColorMap.

MapSource� CDs provide high level detail of roads, recreational areas, coastlines, navaids, lakes, boat ramps, topography and more. A PC Interface cable is enclosed with each StreetPilot ColorMap to allow you to download MapSource� CD Data between your PC and StreetPilot ColorMap. MapSource� software also allows you to view color maps on a personal computer, with zoom and pan functions for easy map browsing. Users can then select individual maps in areas of interest and transfer the maps to the StreetPilot ColorMap or other compatible GPS.

Think of MapSource� as an atlas that contains many smaller maps. By choosing several of these maps, you can make a map set. This map set can then be transferred to your GARMIN GPS, which allows you to tailor the map detail for the geographic areas you wish to view. For instance, if you are planning a trip by car, your map set might only need to include those maps that are along your intended driving route. MapSource gives you the flexibility to choose the extent of the mapping coverage.

Use the trip and waypoint manager functions to create waypoints, routes, and tracks, and transfer them between your GARMIN GPS and your PC. This is excellent for planning your next outdoor adventure, business trip, vacation, or recreational outing without ever leaving your house.
