Chokecherry Canyon
Video: Chokecherry Canyon is located near
Farmington, New Mexico. Local residents often refer to this area as The
Glade. Actually it's the short, rough trails leading in and out of
Chokecherry Canyon that bring clubs from a six state area to face the
challenging terrain. The terrain is similar to Moab, Utah except the
ledges are usually slippery. A local 4x4 club, the Cliff Hangers, led us
across three of the roughest trails beginning with the Waterfall Trail, a
winding trail leading over rocky ledges. But the Intimidator Trail gave us
the greatest thrill. We reached the last set of obstacles before lunch and
didn't leave the area until after dark. Even then, we limped back into
town with our broken vehicles, including my own. Some of the area is
classified "open" by the BLM, thus allowing clubs to develop
trails. Approximate running time 68 minutes.
